Never Cheat a Witch
- edited by Carol Hightshoe

Magical curses. Arcane revenge. Being transformed into a frog. Things evil witches do to mere mortals who cross their path.
But what if there is more to the story. After all the story of Marie Labeau (at least according to one songwriter/singer) included a man who wanted to use her and then dump her.
So what happens when you cheat a witch?
What we are looking for are stories that feature mere mortals using their cunning, and whatever other assets and skills they may have to put one over a witch, wizard, or other powerful magical entity. And the consequences, if any, that they end up facing because of it. Stories can have the mortal winning or the witch winning in the end.
Please avoid fairytale clichés (like the aforementioned frog). Come up with unique and interesting ways to 1) cheat a witch and 2) for the witch to react. What happens when the car warranty people provide an extended warranty on a witch’s broomstick and she finds out it was all a scam after flying into an invisible tree?
Break the story-writing rules if you want. If you use a tried-and-true plotline, twist it in an original and interesting way. Original stories are preferred. Query for reprints.
