WolfSinger Age Guidance Levels

​

10+ — Suitable for middle grade readers; may include mild peril or thematic elements

13+ — May include moderate peril or thematic intensity

15+ — Intended for mature teen readers

18+ — Adult content

WolfSinger Publications uses a paw-print rating system to help readers and parents quickly understand a book’s content. Paw ratings reflect intensity and frequency, not moral judgment. Context and narrative handling matter. When content may be considered borderline, the higher paw rating is applied to avoid underestimating intensity.

 

Each book is evaluated across four content categories:

• Violence

• Language

• Sexual Content

• Dark Themes

 

Each category is rated separately using the paw scale below. A book’s overall age guidance above reflects the highest category rating. Four paws indicate strong but non-graphic content appropriate for mature teen readers (15+). Only five paws, or explicit sexual content, indicate primarily adult material. Violence and dark themes may be intense while remaining suitable for older teens when handled without graphic detail.

🐾 1 Paw — Very Mild

Meaning: Minimal or background-level

Reader Impact: Easily overlooked

• Violence: Implied danger only

• Language: Mild exclamations (“damn”-level equivalents)

• Sexual Content: Passing references only

• Dark Themes: Fleeting unease

 

🐾🐾 2 Paws — Mild

Meaning: Present but limited

Reader Impact: Unlikely to disturb most readers

• Violence: Brief fights, injuries, threats

• Language: Mild profanity, insults, invented oaths

• Sexual Content: Mild references or innuendo

• Dark Themes: Tension, loss, danger without emotional weight

Meaning: Noticeable but contained

Reader Impact: Appropriate for teens familiar with genre

• Violence: Battles, deaths, peril without graphic detail

• Language: Occasional strong words or repeated mild profanity

• Sexual Content: Fade-to-black intimacy, non-graphic sexual situations

• Dark Themes: Sacrifice, danger, grief, ethical conflict

Meaning: Repeated or heavy presence

Reader Impact: Intended for mature teen readers

• Violence: Repeated combat, executions, predation, serious injury

• Language: Regular strong profanity

• Sexual Content: Implied sexual threat, coercion, serious non-graphic situations

• Dark Themes: Trauma, loss, moral corruption, sustained menace

Meaning: Sustained, immersive, or dominant presence

Reader Impact: Likely to distress many readers

• Violence: Graphic brutality, torture, sexual violence, relentless harm

• Language: Frequent strong profanity throughout

• Dark Themes: Abuse, suicide, psychological collapse, dehumanization as core focus
